Hot tub & spa wiring

Water and electricity demand extra care. Every spa we wire gets the protection code calls for, sized to your model's spec sheet.

  • Dedicated 240-volt circuit sized to your spa
  • GFCI spa disconnect within sight of the tub, placed where code requires
  • Underground or surface wiring to the patio, deck or yard
  • Bonding of nearby metal as code requires
  • Swim spas and cold plunges too

Sauna wiring

Indoor or outdoor, traditional or infrared, a sauna heater is one of the biggest loads in a home. We wire it safely and to the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Dedicated circuit for electric sauna heaters
  • Heater controls and contactors installed and set up
  • Heat-rated wiring and lighting inside the sauna
  • Infrared saunas and outdoor barrel saunas
  • Accent and path lighting for the space around it

Hot tub & sauna FAQ

Have a different question? Call 503-583-8050.

What size circuit does a hot tub need?

Most 240-volt hot tubs need a dedicated 40 to 60-amp circuit, but it depends on the model. We follow the manufacturer's spec sheet.

Can I just plug in my hot tub?

Some smaller 120-volt "plug-and-play" spas can use a dedicated GFCI outlet. Larger 240-volt spas must be hardwired to a disconnect.

Will I need a panel upgrade?

Sometimes, especially in older homes or if you're adding a hot tub and a sauna. We check your panel's capacity first and let you know. See our panel upgrade page for more.

Can you wire a hot tub near the river?

Yes. Decks and patios near the water need wet-location rated equipment and GFCI protection, and we handle both.
